The Hazara region of Pakistan is known for its rich wildlife and diverse ecosystems

The Hazara region of Pakistan is known for its rich wildlife and diverse ecosystems. From deserts to forests, the region is home to a wide variety of animals and birds, making it a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department manages several game reserves in Hazara, including Bagra, Kalinjer, Mang , Pind Hashim Khan, Rakh Sardaran, Kaigah Nullah, Battal, Behali, Jallo, Pharhana, Karair, Khuwajagan, Lassan Thukral, Sheikh Abad, and Ralk Baiyan. These reserves provide a safe haven for a range of wildlife species, including Gray Partridge, Black Partridge, Fox, Hare, Chakor Partridge, Pig, Banking Deer, Grey Goral, Wild cat, Falcons, Pheasants, and Jackal.

One of the most significant developments in recent years has been the recommendation by the Wildlife Department to declare Tarbela Lake as a game reserve to protect migratory birds that arrive from as far away as Russia. This move would help preserve the delicate ecosystem of the lake and its surrounding areas.

The Ayubia National Park is another important wildlife destination in Hazara. The park is home to Asiatic leopard, Black bear, Yellow-throated marten, Kashmir hill fox, Red Flying squirrel, Himalayan palm civet, Masked civet and Rhesus Macaque. Birdwatchers can enjoy sightings of Golden eagle, Griffon vulture, Honey buzzard, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel, Indian sparrow hawk, Hill pigeon, Spotted dove and Collared dove.

One of the unique attractions in the region is the Dhodial Pheasantry, which is the largest of its kind in Asia. Located in the village of Dhodial, the pheasantry is home to 16 different species of birds. Some migratory birds from Russia also come to Haripur, adding to the already impressive variety of wildlife in the region.

The wildlife of Hazara plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of nature and preserving the food chain and natural cycles. The economic value of wildlife cannot be ignored, as many wild plants provide useful substances like timber, paper, gums, etc. Furthermore, wildlife provides a gene pool for scientists to carry breeding programs in agriculture, animal husbandry, and fishery.

Despite the importance of wildlife, illegal hunting for subsistence and commercial purposes is a significant threat to ecologically significant wildlife species. It is essential to raise awareness of the importance of preserving wildlife and the consequences of illegal hunting.

Note :-

Hunting of animals and birds without a proper permit is illegal and can lead to fines and penalties imposed by the local administration. It is important to follow the regulations set by the wildlife department and obtain a valid permit before engaging in any hunting activities. This helps to ensure the sustainability of wildlife populations and protects endangered species. Obtaining a proper permit is the responsible thing to do for both the hunters and the conservation of wildlife.
